Philosophy of Education
The past four years have taught me that students need to be creating and doing. Reaching what Benjamin Bloom considered the highest tier in his taxonomy is not as hard as I once believed. Any lesson can evolve from transmission to transformative; all it takes is creativity. As educators we believe that creating is the highest level of thinking; therefore, we must be designing lesson plans that foster creativity. Students can prove to be a challenge, though. Even with the most though-out lesson, everything can still fall apart. Through student teaching, I have learned that the key to being a great teacher is flexibility. Sometimes lessons don’t turn out how we want them to go. Instead of losing patience, we just need to take what we learned and plan accordingly next time. The most important thing a teacher can do to become better is get to know his/her students. When this occurs, we are able to build and shape our lessons and activities around the individual needs of each student.
